“The White Lotus’ Head Makeup Artist Reveals Secrets Behind Season 3 Looks”

From sun-kissed skin to a natural, effortless glow, the beauty on The White Lotus is as captivating as the show itself. But how do you get that luminous, vacation-ready look—especially in hot, humid weather? We talked with Rebecca Hickey, the makeup artist behind all three seasons of The White Lotus, to get her go-to tips for that signature glow.

Rebecca is an Emmy-nominated makeup artist known for her work in TV and film. With more than 20 years in the industry, she’s led makeup teams on high-profile projects, including HBO’s The White Lotus. Her journey began in New York City after college, when she left a temp job at a pharmaceutical company to follow her love of beauty. Encouraged by her parents, she trained at the Makeup Designory in LA and built a career creating memorable on-screen looks that help bring characters to life.

Each season of The White Lotus takes place at a different luxury resort; season three is set in Thailand. The tropical setting and humid climate shaped the show’s beauty direction, leading Rebecca and her team to create fresh, glowing makeup that complements the show’s visuals.

Watch Rebecca below as she shows some of her favorite products used on set of The White Lotus.

Inside the Makeup Trailer — a conversation with Rebecca Hickey

How did you become a professional makeup artist?
I was always obsessed with beauty—tearing pages out of Seventeen as a kid. I didn’t realize being a makeup artist was a real job until after college, when I moved to NYC and felt a pull back to creativity. While working a temp job at a pharmaceutical company, my parents suggested makeup school. Two months later I was on my way to LA to study at the Makeup Designory. Fast forward 20 years, and I now run makeup departments for TV shows.

How did Eminence Organics fit into the looks for The White Lotus?
We use a lot of Eminence Organics on The White Lotus. The brand matches our beauty idea: fresh, glowing skin. Their products work and have a real, natural scent so you can tell the ingredients are genuine.

Which looks from the show stand out to you?
I loved Meghann Fahy’s gem-toned eyes and creamy cheeks last season. This year I pushed that idea further with Leslie Bibb’s character, and I enjoyed creating a ’60s vibe for Aimee Lou Wood’s dinner scenes.

Which Eminence Organics products do you reach for on set?
Anything with Stone Crop! The Stone Crop Cleansing Oil and Stone Crop Hydrating Mist are must-haves. The Citrus Lip Balm is great under lipstick, and the Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant preps the skin perfectly. I also use the Citrus & Kale Potent C+E Serum, the Eight Greens Youth Serum, and the Facial Recovery Oil for that White Lotus glow. And the Yuzu Solid Body Oil is perfect.

Product picks
Yuzu Solid Body Oil — for supple, glowing skin — $56.00
Stone Crop Cleansing Oil — gentle, balancing facial cleanser — $59.00

What are your on-set tips and tricks?
I like to pat the Facial Recovery Oil over makeup for a midday boost and to keep skin dewy. The Lime Refresh Tonique or Stone Crop Hydrating Mist are great for reactivating and refreshing makeup during touch-ups.

How does skincare change when filming in humid, sunny places?
More exfoliation and more hydration. It’s surprising, but skin can still dry out in humid climates, so it needs extra care. I love that we can use Eminence Organics both under and over makeup to keep skin happy and glowing.

How do you work with hair and costume to create a unified character look?
I look at fitting photos and follow the costume designer Alex Bovaird’s direction to start forming ideas. From there we build mood boards and meet with the hair team so everything feels cohesive. I want the characters to feel relatable, so small details—like nail color—matter.
