Eminence Organic Skin Care is now found in spas around the world and has a large, loyal following, but the family-run brand started very simply. Its story began in Hungary in 1958 with a small group of hardworking estheticians. The company didn’t grow internationally until their descendants, brothers Attila and Boldijarre Koronczay, reached a turning point in 1996 and brought the brand to Canada. Living together in a tiny Vancouver apartment in the late ’90s, they struggled to make ends meet while financing their dream. It took about a decade before they saw the first signs of success and the line became available in North America.

The brothers’ support for one another became the company’s backbone. Boldijarre’s training as an esthetician paired with Attila’s civil engineering background and skill with numbers created the right mix of talents to build the business. That emotional and practical support helped them keep going when things were tough.

As Boldijarre reflects, “People only see the success — they don’t see the long road it took to get there. That’s a reminder for anyone who doesn’t find success right away: believe in what you’re doing.” Today, the brand has earned top industry honors, including American Spa’s Favorite Skin Care Line for 10 years running and Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2011.
