Lifestyle & Wellness
Mark your calendars — it’s the first day of spring. Even if it’s still snowing somewhere, now’s the time to clean out your bathroom cabinet. Make room for new (and safer) products — and maybe a few more Eminence Organic Skin Care items, of course.

Here are four risky things in your cabinet that should be tossed right away:
Old Mascara
Mascara should be replaced about every three months. Keep it longer and it can become a breeding ground for bacteria like staph, which can lead to pink eye or other eye infections.
Eco tip: Ask your retailer or the brand if they offer mail-back recycling programs for packaging and used cosmetics.
Old Toothbrush
Dentists recommend replacing your toothbrush every one to three months. As toothpaste builds up, bristles wear down and the brush becomes less effective and more likely to harbor germs.
Eco tip: Try Preserve toothbrushes — they’re made from recycled materials and are recyclable.
Expired Medication
We all hold on to meds, but they don’t suddenly turn toxic after the expiration date. They’re more likely to lose effectiveness. Still, it’s safer to toss medication when it’s expired.
Eco tip: Recycle pill bottles and check with pharmacies or local programs that accept unused medication for safe disposal.
Used Makeup Sponges
Makeup sponges spread product, dead skin cells, and bacteria across your face. Wash them after each use and replace them regularly.
Eco tip: Try a BeautyBlender — it’s durable, washable, and recyclable.
