Sustainability
Why should your spa go green? More and more people want to support eco-friendly businesses — and it’s better for the planet too.

At Eminence Organic Skin Care, we look for organic, earth-friendly solutions in everything we do. One key effort is our Forests for the Future™ program: in partnership with Trees for the Future, we plant a tree for every retail product sold. Just in time for Earth Month, Eminence Organics celebrated a major milestone — we’re the first and only skin care company to have planted 20 million trees!
Those trees have helped restore more than 20,000 acres and improved the lives of thousands of families in developing countries. If you’re looking for ways to make your spa greener and cut its environmental impact, here are some practical steps.
7 Sustainability Tips for Spas
1. Conserve Power
Turn off lights and equipment when they aren’t needed — it’s good for the planet and lowers your operating costs. Using halogen, LED, CFL, or low-voltage track lighting for at least half your fixtures can make a difference. Timers or motion sensors can automatically switch lights off when rooms are empty.
As a Certified B Corporation®, Eminence Organics offsets electricity with wind power credits and solar panels. Consider wind or solar energy for your business too.
Small changes help: set computer monitors to sleep after 15 minutes of inactivity, raise the A/C by two degrees in summer, and lower the thermostat by two degrees in winter. These tweaks save energy and reduce bills.
2. Establish a Recycling Program
Start a recycling program in your spa and place bins next to trash cans in shared areas. Put up clear signs showing what belongs in glass/plastic, paper, and trash bins. Recycle all office paper and reuse scrap paper for memos and notes.
3. Raise Awareness
Set aside time in staff meetings to talk about environmental efforts. Share your green practices in marketing messages to clients. You can also give staff tips on how to be more eco-friendly at home.
4. Use Biodegradable Options
Swap disposable plastic cups, plates, and flatware for reusable or biodegradable versions. Choose natural, non-toxic, biodegradable cleaning products instead of harsh chemicals — clients appreciate safer, greener choices.
Print marketing materials on recycled paper with eco-friendly inks. For example, at Eminence Organics we use letterhead printed on post-consumer recycled paper with environmentally friendly inks.
5. Limit Linens for Guests
Provide only the linens guests need, with extra available on request. This applies to towels and robes and reduces laundry and water use.
6. Save in the Kitchen
Stock organic and Fair Trade coffee. Fair Trade certification supports better lives for farming families and requires fair wages, ethical practices, and environmental measures.
Buy condiments and supplies (cream, sugar, paper goods, hand soap) in bulk to cut costs and waste. Use filtered water taps instead of bottled water to save money and reduce plastic waste.
7. Use Organic Products
Do you use earth-friendly or organic soaps, treatments, and cosmetics? Since 1958, Eminence Organics has used sustainable farming and green practices to make natural, organic, and Biodynamic® products. Consider using organic options for everything from massage oils to bathroom soaps.
We hope these tips help you run a more environmentally and socially responsible spa. Start small — you don’t need to do everything at once. Little changes add up.
