Every day your skin deals with environmental stress that can clog pores, trigger inflammation and speed up aging. That’s why new professional treatments that detoxify, protect and repair the skin are so important. Below is a simple guide to why detox facials matter and how to perform one.

Detox Facial: Why Your Clients Need a Skin Detox and How to Deliver It

Why your clients need a skin detox
Sun exposure, pollution and blue light all damage healthy skin. Normally the lymphatic system clears waste and toxins, keeping this damage in check. But as Eminence Organics International Trainer Brian Goodwin explains, “Our lifestyles tend to block the lymphatic system from doing its job because of the stagnant nature of our lives.” When the lymphatic system is slowed, waste and toxins build up and can show up as acne, redness and signs of aging.

“A detox facial helps to remove impurities, pollutants and dead skin cells to revitalize the skin and support its health.”

A detox facial gives skin a fresh start. The Eminence Organics Product Support Team says detox treatments create a healthier environment for the skin and can encourage more collagen and elastin production. That helps increase cell turnover and strengthen the skin barrier. In short, a detox facial removes impurities, pollutants and dead skin cells to refresh and support the skin.

Ingredients that detox the skin
When choosing professional products for a detox facial, look for ingredients with detoxifying properties. Here are five we recommend.

Mushrooms
Mushrooms are gaining attention in skin care because they’re adaptogens—plants that help the body adapt and restore balance. Reishi mushroom is a standout: it has over 400 bio-active compounds and offers regenerative, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits for skin.

Microgreens
Microgreens like broccoli and radish pack four to six times more nutrients than mature plants. They’re rich in vitamins and minerals that support skin health. As USDA researcher Dr. Gene Lester notes, these nutrients are important for skin and eyes and offer many related benefits.

Birch water
Birch sap is full of electrolytes, flavonoids, amino acids, proteins, enzymes and vitamins. Eminence Organics Lead Skin Care Trainer Natalie Pergar calls it “nature’s sports drink” because it helps replenish and hydrate skin. Used as a drink for centuries in northern Europe and China, birch water now appears in skin care for its hydrating and antioxidant benefits.

Vitamin C
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant essential for growth, repair and maintenance of all body tissues, including skin. Natalie says, “Vitamin C is an incredibly effective nutrient for your body and an all-around savior for skin care. It’s been found to help prevent UV damage, reduce pigmentation, reduce inflammation and boost collagen production in skin.” Because the body can’t make vitamin C, topical products are a great way to deliver it.

Clay
Clay has strong detoxifying effects. As Eminence Organics International Trainer Jude Herrera explains, “Clays help to detoxify the skin and draw out impurities and oil from its surface.” Think of clay like a magnet: its negatively charged particles attract positively charged impurities (like toxins and bacteria) and pull them from pores. Clay is especially helpful for oily or acne-prone skin.

Professional detox facial protocol
Ready to perform a detox facial? Follow this professional step-by-step guide using Eminence Organics products.

1. Double cleanse
Remove makeup and surface oils with Stone Crop Cleansing Oil, then wash away remaining impurities with Stone Crop Gel Wash. The Cleansing Oil contains a Detoxifying Microgreens Complex that protects skin from the drying effects of environmental stress.

2. Tone
Finish cleansing by spraying Stone Crop Hydrating Mist. This moisturizing mist contains stone crop, long used in folk medicine for its anti-inflammatory properties. Stone crop leaves and juice were traditionally applied to soothe red and itchy skin.

Product picks
Stone Crop Hydrating Mist — Hydrating and soothing toner — $39.00
Stone Crop Gel Wash — Gentle wash for all skin types — $48.00

3. Essence
Apply Birch Water Purifying Essence to prime the skin so follow-up treatments absorb better. This lightweight essence combines antioxidant-rich birch water and reishi mushroom to reduce puffiness and rejuvenate skin.

4. Exfoliate
Use Stone Crop Oxygenating Fizzofoliant™ with a few drops of water. Gently massage it in, avoiding the eye area, then remove with a warm, damp towel and pat dry. Its light fizz helps remove impurities and reveal a brighter complexion. It works well as a pre-extraction softener or a degreasing step before a peel.

5. Extractions
Do extractions as needed, but avoid them if the client has sunburned skin.

6. Mask
After extractions, apply Snow Mushroom & Reishi Masque using massage techniques. This de-puffing mask contains snow mushroom, reishi mushroom, birch water and clay to draw out impurities, tighten the look of skin and counter pollution’s drying effects. Its creamy texture provides the right amount of slip for massage.

7. Facial massage
Follow with lymphatic drainage massage. Apply a few drops of Facial Recovery Oil, emulsify, then massage for 5–7 minutes. Remove any excess with a warm, damp towel.

8. Serum
Apply Citrus & Kale Potent C+E Serum. Packed with vitamin C, this serum offers antioxidant benefits that help with signs of aging. Vitamin E and ferulic acid boost its effectiveness.

9. Moisturize
Apply Marine Flower Peptide Night Cream and leave it on. For extra hydration, layer with a few drops of Rosehip Triple C+E Firming Oil. Finish with Lilikoi Daily Defense Moisturizer SPF 40.

Lilikoi Daily Defense Moisturizer SPF 40 offers sun protection and shields skin from drying environmental stress. Lilikoi seed oil helps protect against pollutants and aging signs, while cocoa seed extract helps improve skin exposed to blue light.

10. Eye care
Gently apply a thin layer of Snow Mushroom Moisture Cloud Eye Cream around the eye area, blending until absorbed. This fluffy eye cream contains snow mushroom, reishi mushroom and birch water to hydrate and purify. Quinoa seed peptides help smooth texture and reduce the look of under-eye bags and puffiness.
